Recently, Diệu Tướng Am was honored to host a discussion event together with Venerable Bhikkhuni Thích Nữ Diệu Hiếu, held in the meritorious and meditative atmosphere of Long Hưng Monastery, Bình Tân, Ho Chi Minh City. The discussion shared with Buddhist practitioners and all who sincerely revere the Buddha on the topic: What is ignorance? Where does ignorance come from?

Ignorance means "unenlightened" in both the literal and figurative sense. Figuratively, it means a lack of clarity, a lack of wisdom. "In this life, there is something even more dangerous than petty and wicked people—something one must never fall into. That is ignorance. It keeps a person from recognizing their own faults, even convinces them they are right, so that they refuse to heed others' advice and instead follow their own delusions." Thus, ignorance may be understood as darkness of night, while wisdom is like the bright moon and sun. Recognizing and understanding ignorance in daily life helps clear the mind, guiding us toward awakening and true wisdom.

In this heartfelt sharing, the Venerable offered guidance to Buddhist practitioners and all with a spiritual affinity, on how to recognize ignorance and how to overcome it—by steadying the mind through meditation, keeping the mind clear and free from worry and sorrow, living mindfully and wakefully, and clearly perceiving one's own body and mind.
