LIGHTING A LAMP – CONNECTING A BOND

MarketingEditorial team

As each late summer draws to a close, when the light of gratitude from Vu Lan season gently settles, the reunion lanterns of the Mid-Autumn Festival begin to glow. Though each carries its own message, both of these great festivals within the flow of Vietnamese culture bind generations together through the sacred light of family bonds, gratitude, and household harmony.

One season turns toward its roots.
One season turns toward the future.
And both meet at a shared purpose: preserving and continuing the spirit of the Vietnamese home.

Inspired by this convergence, from August 15 to September 27, 2026, Diệu Tướng Am presents the cultural experience series "Lighting a Lamp – Connecting a Bond", using Vietnamese dó paper as the thread that weaves both festivals together through a contemporary artistic language.

Accompanying this journey is an art exhibition by artist Đoàn Thái Cúc Hương, presented for the first time in a space that bridges Vu Lan and Mid-Autumn. Through works created on dó paper, the artist tells a story of heritage, memory, and the continuity of Vietnamese culture. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a 10-meter Lê-dynasty Dragon Lantern, unveiled to the public for the very first time. Throughout this journey, visitors will pass through two distinct experiential spaces.

"Lighting the Lamp of Gratitude" (August 15 – 28, 2026) opens with an art exhibition, workshops, and hands-on experiences celebrating the beauty of dó paper, evoking filial devotion, gratitude, and the values cherished within every family.

This is followed by "Lighting the Lamp of Reunion" (September 12 – 27, 2026), where the light of floating lanterns gives way to traditional lanterns, opening a space of reunion filled with exhibitions, experiential activities, and programs for families and children during the Mid-Autumn season.

From the floating lanterns lit during Vu Lan season to the glowing lanterns of Mid-Autumn night, the same material carries light across both festivals — dó paper becomes a symbol of continuity between past and present, between ancestors and descendants, between values preserved and values being passed on.

Wishing to spread these values, Diệu Tướng Am proudly serves as the exhibition's sponsoring unit and provider of the exhibition space, creating a meeting point between art, culture, and everyday life — where the public can experience the beauty of traditional craftsmanship within an open and welcoming setting.

Through this series of exhibitions, workshops, discussions, and cultural experiences, Diệu Tướng Am also hopes to share a new perspective on the worship space — not merely a place to honor ancestors, but the very heart of the home, where memories are kept, family traditions nurtured, and generations connected through cultural values passed down through time.

Accompanying this journey is the Gratitude Program, offering complimentary worship space design consultation, along with special privileges for collections of altar items, ritual implements for offerings to the Triple Gem, altar lamps, incense, and meaningful gifts for the season of filial devotion — as a heartfelt tribute to families who wish to preserve their household traditions and nurture their spiritual lives.

For when a lamp is lit, what is preserved is not only light, but also memory, family bonds, and the flow of Vietnamese culture passed from one generation to the next.
